SOC ART

SocArt has something in common with both socialist and social art.
These two aspects are related by a special irony typical of Vozbinas. How boldly ironic is the mere
fact that Aleksandras started using the concept of SocArt in the late eighties, during the period of National
Revival, when SocArt (or, more precisely, Socialist Realism) had negative connotations. On the other hand,
the word SocArt is coined from two elements: “social” and “sociability”, which supposedly serve the Marxist
ideology, and purely “capitalist” art. On this basis alone, it can be asserted that SocArt has direct parallels with
pop art, which is illustrated, justified and declared by Vozbinas’s paintings.
